Black Bear Hunting Information
Hunters will need a vehicle and a map. Vehicles are for rent in Klawock, Alaska. Call early, autos go quickly.
Wilderness Car Rental 1-800-949-2205. A map of Prince of Wales Island is available from the Thorne Bay Forest Service office 907-828-3304.This map will show all roads on this island and all public land, both Federal and State. This island is mostly Tongass National Forest.

HOW TO GET TO US TO BEAR HUNT
You can drive to Bellingham, Wa. or Prince Rupert, Canada and take the Alaska ferry to Ketchikan. Then take the island ferry to Hollis and drive to us.
You can fly to Ketchikan, Alaska from Seattle, Wa, then fly to Klawock, Ak.via LAB AIR 1-800-427-5966. Wilderness Car Rental will have your car waiting for you at the airport. You can take time to shop for groceries in Klawock (about 3 miles from the airport)
Remember that we a very remote wilderness lodge. take the route, out of Klawock to Thorne Bay. The road is paved all the way to Coffman Cove and we are 35 miles north of Coffman. At Control Lake Junction, follow the signs to Whale Pass. Watch for Flyquest Lodge signs after you turn off Forest Service road 20 to Whale Pass.
There is gas , grocery and other services available 25 miles south of us at Naukati. Whale Pass has gasoline, and a vehicle repair shop. We carry a small line of limited groceries, but we suggest you buy suppplies at the larger stores in Klawock. We have a full service Tackle Shop if you want to fish. If you are hunting in the spring, you may want to put in a bait station. The State of Alaska issues bait station permits. 1-907-225-2475
Fall hunters or stalk hunting, no bait stations allowed. (not needed, bears are on the streams where the fish are).
